IDF Chief Visits Southern Syria, Vows to Prevent Hostile Forces Near Israeli Borders
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited the 210th Brigade in southern Syria on Wednesday, conducting an operational assessment and touring the area a day after an Israeli strike targeted an airfield intended for Turkish forces. Zamir was accompanied by Northern Command Chief Major General Rafi Milo, 210th Brigade Commander Brigadier General Yair Paley, and other senior officers. During the visit, Zamir met with reservist soldiers serving in the sector, expressing appreciation for their service and dedication.
Addressing the evolving security situation in Syria, Zamir emphasized the complexity of Israel’s multi-front challenges. He stated, "We will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves on our borders and will apply our power precisely where and when needed." He highlighted the importance of preventing both terrorist threats and significant military dangers along Israel’s borders, noting that Israel has established a forward defense zone in Syria acting as a buffer near Israeli communities.
Zamir also referenced ongoing tensions across other fronts, warning that escalations could occur at any time and underscoring the need for constant readiness. He praised the 210th Brigade’s performance and specifically commended the reservists for their professionalism and extensive service since the war began. Acknowledging the heavy burden on soldiers and their families, Zamir expressed gratitude and assured efforts to ease their load, stating, "The entire nation of Israel owes you a great debt."
