Chemical Leak at Kiryat Gat Pool Injures Nine Including Children
On August 19, 2026, approximately 100 liters of hydrochloric acid accidentally leaked into the municipal swimming pool in Kiryat Gat after a truck driver connected a hose to the wrong fitting. The acid, commonly used in pools to balance pH levels and disinfect against fungi and bacteria, caused injuries to nine people, including children. Five of the injured were taken to Barzilai Hospital for treatment, all with minor injuries. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Hydrochloric acid, if improperly mixed with other pool chemicals, can cause damage to skin, eyes, and other tissues, as well as environmental harm.
