Chemical Leak at Kiryat Gat Public Pool Injures Nine, Authorities Investigate
On Wednesday morning, approximately 100 liters of hydrochloric acid leaked into the municipal swimming pool in Kiryat Gat, causing nine people to suffer minor injuries. The incident occurred when a chlorine-containing pipe detached, releasing the hazardous substance and exposing those present to the chemical. Emergency services, including firefighters, responded promptly after receiving a report at 10:45 AM about the hazardous materials event.
Firefighters conducted extensive searches for additional victims, monitored the area with specialized detectors, and worked to dilute and neutralize the acid to eliminate the danger. Five of the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment, while others received medical care on-site. The pool was closed following the incident, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to operate safely.
