Yaron Avraham Says No One in Israel Should Rejoice at Netanyahu’s Setback

On Monday, Channel 12 political correspondent Yaron Avraham responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement about a developing agreement between Iran and the United States. Avraham argued that Israelis should not take pleasure in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s apparent failure, saying, "In this case his failure is all of our loss."

He warned that an Iran that is being financed, sustained and legitimized, while still led by an extreme leadership with ballistic capabilities and the potential to develop weapons and without effective oversight, is dangerous for both the free world and Israel. Avraham said critics of Netanyahu are right that the prime minister’s arrogance and his total reliance on Trump have "come back as a boomerang" on both him and the country.

He also rejected triumphalism among Netanyahu’s opponents, saying those who are celebrating should ask themselves "what went wrong in their heads along the way." The comments came amid heightened attention in Israel to the possible U.S.-Iran deal and its implications for regional security.
