IDF officer jailed for 15 days after posting political Instagram story

A lieutenant in the IDF was sentenced to 15 days in prison after posting a political story to her private Instagram account, it was reported today, Tuesday, for the first time on the program "BeChatzi Hayom" on Kan News on Reshet Bet.

The officer, who has already been in prison for eight days, wrote in the story she posted, "There is a ceremony under the auspices of Otzma Yehudit, let us take this opportunity to note that we are a political unit and definitely not on the right side haha."

The officer's mother said in response, "I am horrified that my daughter has already been in prison for eight days. My girl is not a political person, she is a girl of values who enlisted in the army after nine months in which she did national service. She works according to values and ideology and she is professional."

According to her, "She wrote a story that was deleted after 24 hours, a story among friends, in a closed group. Really a stupid trial, said in jest, and I cannot even understand what it was for or against. Nonsense. And for that they sentenced her to 15 days. They should use discretion. I am already beginning to lose my trust in the military system."

Yesterday, her mother called the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoram Halevi, who promised her that her punishment would be commuted. Today she spoke with her mother from prison.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories said, "The coordinator approved the request for commutation, and the officer will be released soon."
