Footballer Omer Dahan Demands Immediate Rejection of Suspension Request Amid Match-Fixing Allegations

Omer Dahan, an Israeli football player, has strongly opposed the Israel Football Association's (IFA) request to suspend him from all football activities pending a criminal investigation into alleged match-fixing. Through his attorney, Amir Cohen, Dahan submitted a formal response to the disciplinary court demanding the immediate dismissal of the suspension request. The defense argues that the IFA's move lacks a legal basis and violates procedural fairness, as the association is attempting to impose a suspension outside the regulatory framework before any formal indictment or trial has taken place.

According to Cohen, the IFA's regulations only allow for a suspension during an active investigation for up to 60 days or after filing a disciplinary indictment. Since over 75 days have passed since the investigation began, the defense claims the disciplinary court no longer has authority to suspend Dahan without an indictment. The defense also highlights serious evidentiary flaws, noting that the IFA submitted evidence unilaterally without allowing Dahan or his legal team to review it, which they say breaches his right to a fair hearing.

Furthermore, the defense points to contradictions between police statements and media reports indicating that the investigation against Dahan was closed without charges, as he was found uninvolved beyond personal betting. They criticize the IFA for delaying the suspension request until August 17, two days after Dahan's anticipated signing with Hapoel Kfar Shalem was announced, accusing the association of bad faith and deliberate harm to his professional career.

Dahan's legal team insists that suspending him before any proven guilt severely infringes on his freedom to work and presumption of innocence. They demand that if the suspension request is not rejected outright, the IFA must disclose all investigation materials to Dahan before any decision. The defense expresses confidence that the disciplinary court will recognize the IFA's procedural errors and allow Dahan to continue his football career without interruption.
