Israeli Football Association Seeks Immediate Suspension of Omer Dahan Over Illegal Betting Allegations
The Israeli Football Association (IFA) has officially requested the disciplinary court to immediately suspend footballer Omer Dahan from all association activities. The suspension is sought either until the conclusion of the ongoing criminal investigation against him for suspected involvement in illegal betting or for a minimum period of 60 days. The IFA's request is based on evidence indicating a serious pattern of behavior, where Dahan allegedly regularly bet on league matches in which he participated, including games involving teams he played for.
The association regards the allegations with utmost severity and insists on preventing Dahan's return to the field while the criminal inquiry continues. The case first surfaced in June when Dahan, then a player for Maccabi Haifa and on loan to Hapoel Ra'anana last season, was arrested. At that time, Dahan denied any wrongdoing, posting a statement rejecting claims of match-fixing or selling games. Despite his denial, the IFA is now pushing for strict disciplinary measures pending the legal process.
