Footballer in match-fixing probe to face detention extension hearing
A footballer from a top Israeli club will appear on Thursday for a court hearing on whether to extend his detention, after being arrested in a case involving suspected match-fixing, illegal gambling and tax offenses. The investigation is being handled by Lahav 433.
According to the report, the player denied the allegations during questioning, and his representatives are hoping he will be released home. A response on his behalf was also submitted on Wednesday.
The court had already extended his detention until Thursday over concerns that he could interfere with the investigation. Sources around the player say they want him freed so he can continue preparing for the upcoming season.
