Report: Iran Delayed Deal Completion to Avoid Trump Birthday Clash
Iran waited to finalize the details of an agreement until midnight local time so the announcement would not coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday, which fell yesterday, according to two Iranian officials cited by The New York Times.
The report said the timing was sensitive because of the time difference between Tehran and Washington, which allows each side to frame the completion date differently. When the deal was announced, it was still Sunday in the United States, while it was already Monday in Iran.
The officials did not say the delay affected the substance of the agreement, only that the announcement was held back to avoid the birthday overlap.
