Iranian outlet says nuclear understanding will not be signed Sunday, criticizes Trump over birthday timing
A media outlet linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Iran will not sign an agreement with the United States on Sunday, rejecting President Donald Trump’s public insistence that the memorandum of understanding will be signed that day.
The outlet described Trump’s push to hold the signing on his 80th birthday as unusually insistent. It said Iranian negotiators had made clear the deal has not been finalized and will definitely not be concluded on Sunday.
According to the report, Trump again emphasized that the understanding with Iran would be signed on Sunday, while Iranian officials maintained there is no finalized accord yet. The channel also suggested that some viewers believe Trump is trying to turn the event into a symbolic publicity moment for himself.
The report added that Iranian negotiators are aware of what it called the “hidden layers” behind the timing and will not allow such a media maneuver.
