Israeli Police Charge Teen in Fatal Shooting at Tamra Barbershop Amid Family Dispute
Israeli police announced on Monday that the Northern District's Central Unit solved the murder of Yasser Abu Elhija, 34, a barbershop owner in Tamra, who was killed last month. The investigation revealed that two suspects planned to kill a family member who came to the barbershop for a haircut due to an ongoing dispute. However, a 17-year-old suspect accidentally shot the barbershop worker, who later died from his wounds. The intended target, the suspect's uncle, was seriously injured in the shooting.
The 17-year-old suspect was identified as the shooter, while a 19-year-old relative, the intended victim's nephew and the shooter's cousin, is suspected of scouting the location beforehand and aiding the shooter's escape. Both suspects are expected to face charges soon, with the younger suspect charged with murder and attempted murder. The shooter's father was also investigated but released due to lack of evidence.
Police released footage showing the shooter arriving at the barbershop on an electric bike carrying two guns and opening fire on the two victims. Investigators initially focused on the victims but later centered on the family dispute involving the seriously wounded man. About ten days after the incident, police recovered the electric bike, helmet, and clothing used by the suspect, which had been hidden in a container.
Northern District Commander Chief Superintendent Meir Eliyahu emphasized that solving murder cases and preventing serious crime are top priorities. He stated that the police are deploying advanced technology, intelligence capabilities, and skilled personnel to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those involved in serious crimes.
