Two Charged in Fatal Shooting at Tamra Barbershop in Family Dispute
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office is set to file charges against two suspects involved in a deadly shooting at a barbershop in Tamra on July 7. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when a 17-year-old suspect arrived on an electric bicycle and opened fire, intending to kill a relative. Instead, the barber, 34-year-old Yasser Abu Elhija, was accidentally shot and later died from his wounds. Another customer, aged 39, was seriously injured in the attack.
Police received reports of multiple shooting victims inside the barbershop on a main street in Tamra. The investigation, led by the Northern District Unit, revealed the shooting stemmed from a violent family conflict involving the seriously wounded customer. About ten days after the attack, police located the suspect's electric bicycle and recovered the helmet and clothes used during the shooting, which had been hidden in a container.
On July 19, following the investigation becoming public, several suspects were arrested, including the 17-year-old shooter, who allegedly targeted his 48-year-old uncle, the father of the wounded customer and brother of the intended victim. A 19-year-old relative is also charged with assisting in reconnaissance and facilitating the shooter's escape. Investigators found images of the minor suspect holding two guns on his phone.
The prosecution will request detention of the accused until the end of legal proceedings at the Haifa District Court. Northern District Police Commander Meir Eliyahu emphasized the priority of solving murder cases and combating serious crime, stating that the police are deploying advanced technology and skilled personnel to ensure all suspects face justice.
