Two Charged in Fatal Shooting at Tamra Barbershop Amid Family Feud

The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office is set to file charges against two individuals involved in a deadly shooting at a barbershop in Tamra on July 7. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when a 17-year-old suspect arrived on an electric bicycle and opened fire, intending to kill a relative but accidentally fatally wounding the barber, 34-year-old Yasser Abu Elhija. Another customer, aged 39, was seriously injured in the attack.

Police investigations, led by the Northern District Unit, revealed that the shooting stemmed from a violent family dispute involving the injured customer. The suspect, who is the nephew of the intended target, was aided by a 19-year-old relative who conducted reconnaissance and helped the shooter escape. Authorities recovered the suspect's electric bicycle, helmet, and clothing hidden in a container about ten days after the shooting.

Following the investigation's transition to an open inquiry, several suspects were arrested on July 19, including the 17-year-old shooter. Evidence found on the minor's phone showed images of him with two handguns. The prosecution, represented by attorney Yossi Gimpel, will request the suspects' detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings at the Haifa District Court.

Northern District Police Commander Meir Eliyahu emphasized the priority given to solving murder cases and combating serious crime, highlighting the deployment of advanced technology and skilled personnel to ensure thorough investigations and accountability for offenders.
