Two Men Indicted for Fatal Shooting in Tamra Targeting Family Member
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment and requested remand for two northern Israeli men suspected of planning a murder that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Yasser Abu Elhija in Tamra last month. The shooting occurred at a local barbershop in the Lower Galilee, where several assailants opened fire. Abu Elhija was killed, and a 39-year-old man, who was getting a haircut at the time and is believed to have been the intended target, was seriously injured.
Investigations revealed that the shooter arrived at the barbershop on an electric bicycle armed with a handgun and fired at both victims upon entering. About ten days later, police located the hiding place of the bicycle, recovered the helmet, and found the clothes worn by the shooter concealed in a container. Following the transition to an open investigation, several suspects were arrested, including the two accused: a 17-year-old who allegedly carried out the fatal shooting against his uncle, and a 19-year-old nephew of the intended target and cousin of the first suspect, who assisted in the escape.
Additionally, the 48-year-old father of the younger suspect and brother of the intended target was questioned on suspicion of involvement in planning the murder. Northern District Police Chief Meir Eliyahu emphasized that solving murder cases and preventing serious crime are top priorities, with the police dedicating advanced resources, technology, intelligence, and skilled personnel to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those involved. He stated that officers continue working intensively to resolve ongoing cases and ensure all perpetrators face justice.
