IDF Prepares for Potential Multi-Day Fighting in Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for the possibility of several days of combat in Lebanon due to escalating tensions around operations targeting Hezbollah's terror infrastructure in the Ali Taher and Beaufort ridges. These areas reportedly conceal dozens of Hezbollah militants underground. In recent days, the Israeli political leadership has exercised restraint, rejecting some military responses proposed by the IDF to avoid undermining ongoing US-mediated negotiations with the Lebanese government.

The heightened readiness follows a serious incident in which three IDF soldiers were severely wounded in the Ali Taher ridge. This led to a significant Israeli military response overnight, including a "fire belt" operation and the targeted killing of Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's "Badr" unit operating in the Deir al-Zahrani area. Earlier, Ansar Ali Samir Al-Hajj Hassan, a battalion commander in Hezbollah's "Radwan" unit, was also eliminated along with other militants.

Regarding the situation, a spokesperson for the US State Department told Al Jazeera that Hezbollah is responsible for Israel's presence in Lebanese territory and is the main obstacle to Lebanon's economic recovery. The spokesperson emphasized that pilot zones are the only practical path toward achieving peace.
