Three Israeli Swimmers Reach European Championships Semifinals with Anastasia Gorbunko Leading
The Israeli swimming team delivered an impressive performance at the European Swimming Championships, with three Israeli women securing spots in the semifinals. Anastasia Gorbunko from Maccabi Kiryat Bialik led the way by qualifying first overall in the 200-meter individual medley preliminaries, clocking a time of 2:11.87 minutes and dominating her heat from start to finish.
Leah Polonsky of Maccabi Haifa also advanced in the same event, earning the eighth overall position with a time of 2:13.43 minutes. Both Gorbunko and Polonsky are set to compete in the semifinals later that evening starting at 20:35. The third Israeli semifinalist is Tom Minis, also from Maccabi Haifa, who set a personal best in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:01.19 minutes, finishing 16th overall and qualifying for the semifinals at 19:50.
Other Israeli swimmers competed in morning heats but did not advance. Aviv Barzilai (Maccabi Haifa) placed 24th in the 100-meter backstroke, Daria Golovaty (Hapoel Bat Yam) ranked 38th in the 50-meter freestyle with 25.94 seconds, and Mark Teller (Maccabi Merom Ramat Gan) finished 39th in the 50-meter breaststroke with 27.90 seconds.
