IDF Rabbi Severely Wounded in Lebanon Celebrates Birth of His Son Amid Recovery

Rabbi Or Shwaka, head of the Tzlash yeshiva in Ra'anana and a company commander in the paratroopers, was severely injured in Lebanon about six months ago when a shrapnel fragment lodged just 1.5 millimeters from his windpipe. After the fragment was removed, he underwent extensive rehabilitation due to injuries to his legs and continues to cope with the aftermath. Recently, while balancing recovery and preparing to return to teaching at the yeshiva, Rabbi Shwaka and his family joyfully welcomed the birth of his son.

This milestone coincides with a significant week for the Tzlash organization, which supports IDF veterans. Rabbi Peretz Einhorn has been visiting military bases to accompany new recruits in the August intake for units including Kfir, Nahal, paratroopers, and logistics. An event was held on the eve of the Hebrew month of Elul featuring Rabbi Eyal Vered, focusing on spiritual renewal and repentance.

Rabbi Shwaka expressed gratitude for the kindness and challenges he has experienced, linking the birth of his son to themes of transition, renewal, and new beginnings. His journey from fighting for his life in Lebanon to bringing new life into the world symbolizes hope and resilience for the community he leads and serves.
