Israeli Rescue Team Departs for Colombia to Aid Earthquake Victims
An Israeli humanitarian rescue and aid delegation named "Covenant of Friends" is set to depart Israel tonight (Thursday) for Colombia. This mission follows a devastating earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, resulting in at least 265 deaths and over 3,500 injuries. The deployment was ordered by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and initiated after Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar proposed assistance to his Colombian counterpart, President Gustavo Petro.
The delegation, jointly led by the Home Front Command and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will fly from Nevatim Airbase on an Israeli Air Force plane. Upon arrival, the team will immediately begin rescue operations and provide humanitarian aid, including distributing food and water packages to those affected by the earthquake.
The rescue force is commanded by retired Brigadier General Yossi Pinto, head of the Home Front Command's national rescue and recovery unit. The team comprises approximately 80 personnel, including rescue workers and experts from both active duty and reserves. The Israeli embassy in Colombia will coordinate the delegation's activities with local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure effective assistance.
