Israeli Rescue Team in Colombia Shifts to Recovery Phase After Earthquake
The Israeli "Friendship Alliance" delegation continues its joint rescue operations with local and international teams at major destruction sites in Cali, Colombia, following a recent earthquake. So far, the teams have located and rescued 17 missing persons, with search efforts ongoing. Approximately one week after the earthquake and following the Colombian government's declaration, the mission has transitioned to the recovery phase. Alongside ongoing rescue operations, efforts have intensified to map and assess damaged buildings.
Brigadier General (Res.) Yossi Pinto, the spokesperson and commander of the Israeli delegation, spoke from one of the main destruction sites in Cali. He emphasized the continuous and collaborative nature of the work, stating, "We have been operating here for several consecutive days, working together with local Colombian forces." Pinto confirmed that search efforts will persist alongside recovery activities until all missing individuals are found at this and other sites.
In addition to rescue operations, the Israeli team is contributing expertise, technology, and tools to assist local authorities in managing the crisis, both in life-saving efforts and the upcoming recovery phase. Pinto highlighted the strong cooperation with Colombian forces, affirming, "We will continue working together until the mission is complete."
