Israel Deploys New Armored Audi Limousines for Netanyahu and Security Officials

Israel has introduced eight new armored limousines into service, including the Audi A8 Security model recently seen transporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Malha Mall during the election campaign. Each vehicle cost at least 3 million shekels. Four of the limousines were allocated to the Prime Minister's Office, two to the President's residence, and two to the Shin Bet security agency for transporting high-ranking officials under security alerts.

The new vehicles replace older limousines in use since 2018, which have suffered significant wear due to heavy armor and extensive mileage, making maintenance costly. Plans to replace the fleet were first discussed in 2020 but delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war. According to the vehicle management authority, such limousines are typically replaced every four years.

The new limousines feature unique armor specifications developed with Shin Bet, providing protection against small arms fire, roadside bombs, and new threats such as chemical attacks. They include a gas filtration system, integrated communication systems, and the ability to lock passengers inside. Audi factory representatives in Germany worked alongside Israeli officials to customize the vehicles.

Despite the heavy armor, the limousines maintain luxury features like refrigerators, special upholstery, and wood paneling. However, passengers report the interior is notably cramped due to the extensive security systems installed.
