Israel Deploys New Armored Audi Limousines for Netanyahu and Top Officials

Israel recently acquired eight new armored Audi A8 Security limousines, each costing at least three million shekels, to upgrade its government vehicle fleet. These vehicles, which faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and wartime events, have now entered operational use. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was filmed riding in one of the new limousines during a visit to the Malha Mall in Jerusalem, as shown in a video released by his spokesperson Topaz Luk.

The distribution of the limousines is based on security needs: four are allocated to the Prime Minister's Office for Netanyahu's use, two to the President's Office for President Isaac Herzog, and two to the Shin Bet security service. These vehicles are designed to transport high-profile officials and visiting dignitaries under heightened security alerts.

The new fleet replaces older vehicles from 2018 that suffered from significant wear due to the heavy armor, which caused frequent maintenance issues. The new Audi limousines feature advanced armor tailored to Israeli security requirements, developed with close cooperation from Shin Bet and Audi's German factories. They provide protection against small arms fire, roadside bombs, and include systems for filtering toxic gases and integrated communication allowing occupants to lock themselves inside.

In addition to security features, the limousines offer luxurious amenities such as refrigerators, leather upholstery, and special wood paneling. However, the thick armor results in a relatively cramped interior space, as noted by passengers. The government vehicle administration mandates replacing these vehicles every four years to maintain operational reliability and security standards.
