Maccabi Tel Aviv Faces Foreign Player Utilization Issues Ahead of Season

Maccabi Tel Aviv's struggles with effectively using foreign players have become evident as the new season approaches. After a strong start with three wins, the team suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to CSKA Sofia in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on August 10, highlighting deeper problems. One major factor behind Maccabi Tel Aviv's collapse is poor preparation regarding their foreign player roster. The Israeli Football Association recently allowed clubs to sign up to eight foreign players to aid teams competing in Europe. However, Maccabi Tel Aviv has utilized only 25 percent of their total minutes with foreign players so far, far less than other Israeli clubs in European competition. For comparison, Hapoel Tel Aviv's foreign players have played 58 percent of minutes, Beitar Jerusalem 43 percent, and Hapoel Be'er Sheva 33 percent.
