Pizza chain launches World Cup pies inspired by competing nations
Pizza Piedra has launched a special World Cup menu that will change throughout the tournament, with each pizza tied to a different national team as matches and results progress. The concept is meant to connect watching the games with flavors associated with the countries taking part.
In an interview with ynet studio, Yaakov Halperin said, “We want the pizza to match the atmosphere, to connect culture with food.” He said each pie would be built around culinary elements linked to the relevant team.
For Mexico, he said the pizzas would include plenty of jalapeños and other country-related motifs. For Germany, the chain plans a pizza with honey and local spices, and Halperin noted that German honey is considered especially high quality.
For Japan, he said the main ingredient will be tuna. The special pizzas will keep changing over the course of the tournament, depending on the matches and which teams advance further.
