Israel Warns Iran May Fire at Israeli Territory After Beirut Strike
Israeli officials now assess that Iran may launch direct fire from its own territory at Israel, following a series of public threats from senior figures in Tehran after IDF strikes earlier today in Beirut’s Dahieh district. The assessment came after the commander of Khatam al-Anbiya said that “the crimes of the Zionist entity will not go unanswered,” while an Iranian parliament spokesman for national security and foreign policy warned Israel against a “miscalculation,” hinting at a possible Islamic Republic response.
The statements were made shortly after the IDF struck Hezbollah targets in Beirut, in response to launches toward Israel and continuing violations by the organization. The attack came about a week after Israel’s political leadership said any fire from Lebanese territory would be met with strikes on targets in Beirut.
Earlier today, air-raid warnings were activated in several northern areas over suspected hostile aircraft penetration. A suspicious aerial object was identified falling inside Israel, near the Lebanese border, and the IDF said there were no casualties and that the incident was under review. In the morning, two additional Hezbollah drones also fell inside Israel near the border.
Last night, sirens sounded in Metula after rockets were detected firing from Lebanon toward the town, against the backdrop of the announcement of the agreement with Iran. None of the incidents caused injuries, but local residents sharply criticized the response. After the Beirut strike, Lebanon’s health ministry said two people were killed and four were wounded. The reported targets were apparently empty Hezbollah headquarters.
