Israeli Foreign Minister Sa'ar Plans to Expand International Recognition of Golan Sovereignty

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar visited Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights on Wednesday, meeting with local leaders to discuss the recent diplomatic breakthrough achieved under his leadership. This breakthrough involved Colombia officially recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a significant development in Israel's international standing on the issue. During the meeting, Sa'ar shared details of his recent discussions with Colombian President Iván Duque in Barranquilla, where the historic recognition was agreed upon. Sa'ar emphasized the strategic importance of the Golan Heights for Israel's security, referencing the tragic events of October 7 as underscoring Israel's need for defensible borders. He also called on other world leaders to follow Colombia and former U.S. President Donald Trump in recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the region. Local council heads expressed their gratitude for Sa'ar's long-term efforts to promote development and population growth in the Golan, as well as his role in securing the diplomatic achievement. Sa'ar noted that the recognition by Colombia has drawn criticism from some Arab countries and predicted increased international pressure on this issue in the near future. The meeting included regional council heads from Katzrin, Mas'ade, and Buq'ata alongside Majdal Shams.
