IDF Warns Gaza Residents of Hamas Repression Amid Ceasefire, Acknowledges Hamas Control

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued an unusual public statement in Arabic directed at residents of the Gaza Strip, warning them about Hamas's ongoing oppressive activities since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025. The statement highlighted that both the IDF and the Shin Bet security service have identified an increase in harsh interrogations and torture carried out by Hamas against Gaza civilians as part of the group's desperate efforts to consolidate its power.

The IDF message also accused Hamas of exploiting civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and mosques, for military purposes. These facilities are reportedly used to conduct arbitrary arrests and systematic torture of the population. Journalist Doron Kedosh noted that the statement implicitly admits that Hamas continues to maintain control mechanisms over Gaza's population and enforces its authority despite the ceasefire.

This acknowledgment by the IDF marks a rare admission that Hamas still holds significant influence and control within Gaza, continuing to impose its rule on residents through coercive means.
