Family Fulfills Fallen Israeli Officer's Wish by Launching Memorial Brewery

Captain Alon Skagio, who died in June 2024 from a bomb explosion during an operation in Jenin, left a final request for his family. Before his death, Alon wrote a note titled "In Case…" expressing his wish for a brewery named "Duvdevan" after the elite unit he served in and admired. His family has now realized this dream, and the brewery's beer will debut at the Beer Festival in Hadera, Alon's birthplace, on August 19-20, 2026.

Born on February 17, 2002, Alon was the son of Arvin and Doria, brother to Amit and Ariel, and partner to Sharon Yitzhaki. He enlisted in the IDF in December 2020, becoming a sniper and fighter in the Duvdevan Unit. Due to his excellence, he attended officer training and later commanded a sniper team in the Kfir Brigade's Haruv Unit.

On June 26, 2024, during a mission in Jenin, Alon was severely wounded by a powerful explosive device while attempting to rescue a critically injured paramedic. Despite the detonation of a second bomb injuring about 20 soldiers, Alon’s efforts exemplified his dedication to his comrades. He succumbed to his injuries at Emek Hospital in Afula.

Following his death, Alon's family and partner decided to honor his last wish. The Hadera Beer Festival, organized by the municipality, will be the first public venue to sell beer from the "Duvdevan Brewery," commemorating both Alon's favorite drink and his beloved unit. His mother, Doria, highlighted Alon's commitment to excellence and friendship, noting how he connected people through coffee and beer. She expressed hope that his legacy and values will continue to inspire many.

This tribute not only memorializes Alon’s sacrifice at age 22 but also celebrates his spirit of camaraderie and dedication to Israel’s defense.
