Police Extend Detention of Eldar Dayan’s Friends Amid Ongoing Investigation
Following the breaking of their silence, Eldar Dayan’s friends have been brought back to court for an extension of their detention. The investigation into Dayan’s disappearance and death has yet to yield significant breakthroughs. Authorities are currently awaiting the forensic medical institute’s report, which will determine the cause of death and guide the direction of the inquiry.
According to testimonies, after a police patrol car passed by, Dayan and his companions fled towards an open area where they hid for about half an hour. Investigators possess footage showing the three leaving a rest stop and heading into the open terrain. One of the friends, Peretz, stated that he and Barberman left the hiding spot to catch a bus back to Dimona, but Dayan was no longer with them. They lost contact with him and assumed he was still hiding and would reach out later. Both men claim they tried repeatedly to contact Dayan after parting ways and participated in subsequent search efforts, denying any harm to him.
At this stage, the investigation has not made any dramatic progress. The central unit investigators plan to conduct further inquiries, including covert operations, and may summon those involved in the fight preceding Dayan’s disappearance for additional questioning. During today’s hearing, the police are expected to outline remaining investigative steps and request another extension of the suspects’ detention.
