Israel Pledges $1.8 Billion to Develop and Strengthen Northern Region at Galilee Conference

The Galilee Conference 2026 took place in Safed, focusing on the rehabilitation and strengthening of northern Israel following recent conflicts. The event highlighted plans to invest over 1.8 billion shekels in enhancing security, civil resilience, economic growth, employment, and tourism in the Galilee and surrounding areas.

Central to the conference were discussions on improving the security and sense of safety for northern residents, alongside boosting local economies and community development. Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen spoke at the conference, reflecting on his visits to Iran’s Fordow nuclear site and expressing support for the U.S. airstrike there, calling it a realization of his hopes to prevent nuclear armament.

The conference was held as part of the "Yalla Galil" festival, running from August 4 to 20, which features performances and events across the Galilee to attract visitors and support local businesses and communities. The festival and conference together aim to place the northern region back at the center of national attention by linking security and resilience with regional growth and tourism.

This initiative underscores the Israeli government's commitment to restoring stability and prosperity to the north, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that combines defense, economic development, and cultural engagement.
