Elad Hassin Prepares for 17th Coaching Season with Maccabi Ramat Gan After Successful Stint in Eilat

Elad Hassin, 46, is entering his 17th season as a basketball coach, currently leading Maccabi Ramat Gan. Reflecting on his career, Hassin describes it as a gradual build rather than an immediate rise, emphasizing the importance of resilience and luck. He recalls starting coaching at a young age and working as an assistant to Pini Gershon at Maccabi Tel Aviv and Olympiacos, highlighting Gershon's influence on his philosophy.

Last season, Hassin coached Ironi Eilat in the Israeli National League, leading the team to 29 wins and a single loss, securing promotion to the Premier League. Despite this success, Hassin chose to move to Maccabi Ramat Gan to be closer to his family in central Israel and because he sees greater potential for success there. He praised the stability and legacy left by former coach Shmulik Brener and plans to implement his own agenda, aiming to return the team to the playoffs.

Hassin assembled a roster blending experienced Israeli players such as Lior Carrera, Joaquin Shuchman, Roy Fritski, and Gil Bnei, emphasizing character and team DNA. He also noted the club's improved financial backing under new owner Avi Gabay, who aims to elevate the team's status.

Hassin also recounted coaching the Israeli under-20 national team to a silver medal at the European Championship three years ago, spotlighting player Deni Wolf's rise from obscurity to prominence. He remains in contact with Wolf and expressed readiness to coach the senior national team if called upon.

The coach shared personal challenges, including the tragic loss of player Raz Adam and other colleagues, and the impact of regional security threats on his teams. He concluded by reaffirming the marathon nature of basketball careers, quoting Pini Gershon: "When you are good, luck eventually catches up with you."
