Indian military transport plane crashes during landing, killing five crew members
A newly released video shows the crash of an Indian Air Force transport plane at Jorhat Air Force Base in Assam, in northeastern India. The footage captures the aircraft swerving on the runway, then erupting into thick smoke and large flames after impact.
The accident happened on Saturday while an Antonov An-32 transport aircraft was attempting to land at the local military base. According to the Indian Air Force, a large fire broke out shortly after the plane hit the ground.
Five crew members were killed in the disaster, including the squadron commander, and four other crew members. The co-pilot survived, was rescued from the crash site, and taken for medical treatment.
The aircraft belonged to Squadron 43 and was carrying out a transport mission at the time of the crash. The Indian Air Force expressed condolences to the families of the dead and said it had opened a formal investigation into the circumstances of the accident and what caused the crash.
