Son of Ro'i Klein Joins Golani Brigade, Continuing Family Legacy

New recruits to the Golani Brigade, one of the Israel Defense Forces' oldest infantry units, recently completed the traditional water ceremony at the recruitment office before beginning their basic training. Following this, they will advance to combat training. Among the new soldiers is the son of Lieutenant Colonel Ro'i Klein, who famously sacrificed himself by jumping on a grenade to save his comrades. The younger Klein is expected to earn the same brown beret as his father, symbolizing his place in the brigade.

Despite the emotional significance of the event, some parents of the recruits expressed frustration toward the ultra-Orthodox community for not sharing the burden of military service. They emphasized that "bearing the burden" is not just a slogan but a responsibility that must be fulfilled by all sectors of Israeli society.

This recruitment cycle occurs amid ongoing security challenges and the recently enacted conscription law, which aims to increase enlistment across different segments of the population. The ceremony and the new soldiers' commitment highlight both the personal and national dimensions of military service in Israel today.
