Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Clashes with Givat Shmuel Mayor Over Funding and Land Dispute

The leadership of the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva network has accused the Givat Shmuel municipality, led by Mayor Yossi Brodny, of unilaterally canceling their operating agreement signed in 2021 before its expiration. They claim the city stopped ongoing budget support, froze funds allocated for renovations and classroom construction, and is attempting to seize land belonging to the yeshiva since the time of Rabbis Moshe Zvi Neriah and Avraham Zuckerman. This conflict has escalated tensions, with the yeshiva's head, Rabbi Shraga Prochter, expressing concern to parents about dwindling resources and the strain caused by the dispute.

The yeshiva leadership criticized the mayor for actions they say undermine the institution's stability and future, affecting hundreds of local students. They also referenced ongoing legal and administrative proceedings, including summons related to building issues and public defamation against the yeshiva's management. Instead of focusing on education and preparing for the upcoming school year, staff are forced to dedicate time and resources to counter the municipality's measures.

In a letter addressed to city residents and council members, the Bnei Akiva network called on Mayor Brodny to immediately halt these actions and resume support for the yeshiva, emphasizing his legal and moral obligations. The dispute highlights a growing rift between the religious educational institution and the municipal leadership in Givat Shmuel.
