Bnei Akiva Yeshiva and Givat Shmuel Municipality Move Toward Compromise Amid Dispute

The Bnei Akiva Yeshiva in Givat Shmuel is reportedly engaged in advanced negotiations with the city municipality to reach a compromise after a recent conflict over the yeshiva's future. The dispute escalated last week when the municipality decided to terminate its contract with the yeshiva before the agreement's expiration, prompting warnings from the yeshiva's leadership about potential harm to students, uncertainty for the upcoming school year, and financial consequences for parents.

A senior official from the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Center told Srugim that the tensions between the yeshiva and the municipality have been ongoing for many years but are now being addressed through dialogue with Mayor Yossi Brodny and city officials. The official emphasized the importance of cooperation between the municipality and the yeshiva, highlighting that the welfare of the institution and its students remains the top priority.

Meanwhile, opposition members in the city council continue to criticize Mayor Brodny's handling of the situation, accusing him of making significant decisions without proper council discussion. Council member Adi Gross stated that the city council should be involved in decisions affecting the city's future and condemned the mayor's approach as harmful to the students of one of Israel's leading religious educational institutions.

Founded over 50 years ago by Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Neriah, the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva in Givat Shmuel serves about a thousand students, including many local residents, and is recognized as a top institution in the Religious Zionist community. The ongoing dispute has raised concerns about the impact on the yeshiva's educational achievements and stability.

The parties appear hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon to ensure the yeshiva's continued operation and the students' well-being.
