Israeli Enforcement in West Bank Surges with Record Demolitions of Illegal Palestinian Structures

A new report from the Civil Administration's Supervision Unit reveals a dramatic increase in the demolition of illegal Palestinian buildings in the West Bank during recent years. The data, covering the first half of each year, shows a sharp rise from 250 demolitions in early 2022 to 536 in the first half of 2026. This trend reflects a consistent escalation in enforcement actions under the policy direction of Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

The report notes a slight dip to 201 demolitions in 2023, attributed to the war, but the numbers quickly rebounded to 310 in 2024 and surged to 443 in 2025 before reaching the current peak. Additionally, the Settlement Administration highlights a pattern of Palestinians demolishing their own structures to avoid official enforcement.

Minister Smotrich praised the data as evidence of a deliberate policy shift, emphasizing that for years Israel had been passive in the face of the Salam Fayyad plan, which aimed to establish facts on the ground through extensive construction in Area C to promote a Palestinian state. He underscored the government's ongoing "revolution" in the West Bank, including the establishment of 104 new settlements and 160 farms protecting over one million dunams of state land, alongside a firm stance against unauthorized Arab land takeovers.

Smotrich concluded by thanking the Supervision Unit and the Civil Administration's infrastructure branch for their dedicated and professional work in implementing government policy on the ground.
