Spider-Man Breaks Box Office Records While Nolan’s Odyssey Surpasses $1.1 Billion Globally
Two of the summer's most talked-about films continue to achieve exceptional box office success. "Spider-Man: New Day" has grossed approximately $1.67 billion worldwide within just ten days of release, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far. In North America alone, it has earned about $655 million, with international markets contributing over $1 billion. This rapid pace places it among the highest-grossing films of all time in under two weeks.
The film set a new all-time opening weekend record in North America with $360.1 million, surpassing the previous record held by "Avengers: Endgame" since 2019, which earned $357 million. Its opening day also set a record with $169.8 million, including $72 million from Thursday previews. In its second weekend, "Spider-Man: New Day" earned $144.5 million in North America, marking the third-highest second weekend ever and a new record for Sony, whose films had never before crossed $100 million in a second weekend. Over 250,000 Israelis watched the new Spider-Man film within its first week.
Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey" has also achieved significant global success, grossing around $1.105 billion worldwide. It earned approximately $461.2 million in North America and $643.6 million internationally, highlighting strong performance outside the U.S. and Canada. This film became Nolan’s highest-grossing movie, surpassing "The Dark Knight Rises," which made about $1.08 billion, and marking only his second film to cross the billion-dollar mark. For comparison, "Oppenheimer," a major 2023 success, grossed about $975 million.
"The Odyssey" also set a personal record for Nolan with a global opening weekend of about $264 million, the highest for any of his films. Its IMAX earnings were particularly notable, generating approximately $147.3 million in North America alone, a record for IMAX in that market. The film is set to open in China on August 14, which could further boost its global total.
