Spider-Man: Brand New Day Breaks Box Office Records with $927 Million Opening

The new Spider-Man film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," starring Tom Holland, has become a massive summer hit, grossing $927 million worldwide within just a few days of release. This marks the second-largest global opening weekend ever, trailing only behind 2019's "Avengers: Endgame." In North America alone, the movie earned $355 million, placing it second in all-time domestic openings, just behind "Avengers: Endgame" which opened with $357 million. Internationally, it added $573 million, contributing to its record-setting global total.

The film's success is particularly significant for Marvel Studios, which has struggled to replicate its previous box office dominance in recent years with several underperforming releases such as "The Marvels," "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," and "Captain America: New World Order." Marvel president Kevin Feige described the opening as "extraordinary," thanking fans and highlighting the enduring appeal of Marvel heroes worldwide.

Additionally, Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," now in its third week, added $51 million, contributing to the most lucrative box office weekend ever with combined earnings of approximately $430 million across all films. This surpasses the previous record weekend set by "Avengers: Endgame," which totaled $402 million. The film's success comes despite calls for a boycott in Lebanon due to the film's association with Israel.
