Christopher Nolan’s 'Odyssée' Breaks Box Office Records in Israel with 80,000 Tickets Sold

Christopher Nolan’s film "Odyssée," an adaptation of Homer’s epic, achieved a record-breaking opening weekend in Israel, selling 80,000 tickets despite coinciding with the World Cup final, which drew many viewers to television. This marks Nolan’s best opening in the Israeli market, with 20% of the film’s revenue coming from IMAX screenings, aligning with its global box office success.

Worldwide, "Odyssée" has grossed $246 million in its first weekend, surpassing the opening figures of all Nolan’s previous films, including the Dark Knight trilogy. Approximately 21% of these earnings, or $51.8 million, came from IMAX ticket sales, with $6.1 million from IMAX 70mm film screenings, the format in which the movie was shot and which is available in only 41 cinemas worldwide. Many of these screenings were sold out weeks in advance, including in major cities like New York and London.

The film’s opening ranks as the third largest worldwide for 2026, following the animated sequels "Super Mario Galaxy" and "Toy Story 5." Industry observers are now watching to see how many first-weekend viewers will return for repeat viewings, which could push the film’s total box office beyond $1 billion, aided by the higher ticket prices for IMAX.

"Odyssée" arrives three years after Nolan’s previous film "Oppenheimer," which also set IMAX box office records and earned around $900 million globally, previously holding the record for the highest-grossing biographical film until recently surpassed by "Michael," the Michael Jackson biopic, which crossed the $1 billion mark.
