Police file indictments over violent protest outside Justice Solberg's home

Israeli police and state prosecutors filed four indictments on Sunday against four Beit Shemesh residents accused of taking part in a violent disturbance outside the home of Supreme Court Deputy President Justice Noam Solberg in Alon Shvut.

The defendants are Nachman Platnik, Avraham Fried, Gershon Hanun and Shimon Atf. According to the indictment submitted to Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, the protest was sparked by a call published after court rulings on enforcing military draft rules for yeshiva students. More than 100 people reportedly הגיעו to the scene, including the four accused.

Prosecutors say the crowd turned violent around Solberg's home, breaking windows, throwing stones, damaging a car and other property, and blocking the road leading to the house for periods of time. The indictment also says some participants entered the yard and nearby parking area, threw pamphlets and flags, attacked one of the judge's neighbors, and forced a police vehicle to back away after running toward it while shouting.

All four defendants are charged with participating in a riot, and two of them are also charged with trespassing after allegedly entering the home's parking area. In the remand request, attorney Iluz called it an "extremely serious, extraordinary and unprecedented incident" involving violent rioting outside a judge's home and damage to property because of his role on the Supreme Court.
