Indictments Filed Against Four in Riot Outside Supreme Court Justice Solberg’s Home
The State Prosecutor’s Office has indicted four Beit Shemesh residents, Nahman Platnik, Avraham Fried, Gershon Hanun and Shimon Atap, over their role in a violent protest outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg in Alon Shvut. All four are charged with rioting, and two of them are also charged with trespassing after entering the home’s parking area.
According to the indictment, notices were posted in synagogues in Bnei Brak on the day of the incident calling people to join a protest near Sohlberg’s home. Police said they do not know who hired the buses that brought protesters to the site, or who directed them there. The protest was held in response to court rulings dealing with enforcement of military conscription for yeshiva students.
More than 100 protesters arrived, and the demonstration escalated into violence around the judge’s house. Windows were smashed, stones were thrown, damage was caused to the home, a car and other property, and the road leading to the house was blocked at times. Some participants entered the yard and the adjacent parking area. Flyers and flags were thrown, one of Sohlberg’s neighbors was assaulted, and a police vehicle that arrived had to pull back after protesters ran toward it shouting.
The investigation in the West Bank district police unit is continuing against additional suspects. In a detention request to the court, lawyer Ariel Iluz described the case as
