Israeli Right-Wing Group Regavim Appeals EU Sanctions at Luxembourg Court

The Israeli right-wing organization Regavim and its CEO, Meir Deutsch, have filed a groundbreaking appeal at the Court of the European Union in Luxembourg seeking to annul sanctions imposed on them by the EU Council in May. This legal action marks the first time an Israeli entity or citizen has challenged European sanctions in this manner. The appeal is led by an international team of senior lawyers, including Salome Lamson from the Paris Bar and Nick Kaufman from Jerusalem.

The appeal criticizes the EU's evidentiary file against Regavim as unprofessional and heavily reliant on reports from far-left organizations and media outlets. It highlights significant distortions, such as wrongly attributing the demolition of a school in the village of Jibta al-Dib to Regavim, when in fact the demolition was carried out by Israeli authorities under a Jerusalem District Court order due to imminent structural danger.

Regavim also condemns the EU's sanctioning process as undemocratic and coercive, lacking any fair hearing or due process, and severely restricting EU citizens' rights to support Regavim's lawful activities. The sanctions prohibit business relations with European-registered companies, including banks and financial service providers. Meir Deutsch accused the EU of creating a "legal smokescreen" to persecute a legitimate civil society group simply for publicly criticizing the EU's illegal actions. He emphasized that the appeal aims not only to protect Regavim's operations and reverse economic damages but also to resist what he described as the EU's intimidation of Israeli civil society amid its broader efforts to promote the establishment of a Palestinian terror state threatening Israel's future.
