IDF Unit Nili Pursues Every Terrorist Involved in October 7 Attacks Relentlessly

Following the October 7, 2023 attacks, the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the IDF established a joint unit named Nili (Netzach Yisrael Lo Yishaker) dedicated to tracking and eliminating all terrorists involved in the massacre or holding hostages since that day. The unit operates around the clock, maintaining an extensive Excel database with thousands of names of suspects, ranging from direct attackers to logistical supporters such as drivers and commanders of raids.

Nili has successfully neutralized key Hamas figures responsible for the attacks, including Muhammad Deif, Yahya and Muhammad Sinwar, Salah al-Arouri, and recently the senior operative Ezz al-Din al-Qaddad. The unit’s mission extends beyond the main perpetrators to anyone involved in hostage-taking or abuse during the conflict. This includes individuals who participated in hostage ceremonies or other supporting roles.

The unit employs advanced intelligence methods, combining AI-based facial recognition, analysis of terrorists’ own GoPro footage, and human intelligence sources on the ground. They meticulously study targets’ routines down to details such as prayer times and breakfast habits to plan precise strikes. Despite the operational urgency, Nili operates under international law constraints, meaning not all terrorists can be targeted if they are no longer active combatants.

Since the ceasefire agreement with Hamas in October, the pace of targeted killings has increased, aided by intelligence from released hostages and captured militants. The unit’s members emphasize that their motivation is not revenge but professional duty and strategic deterrence. They believe their efforts send a clear message to Hamas that any future attacks will be met with comprehensive retribution.

To date, approximately 2,800 terrorists on Nili’s lists have been eliminated, with thousands more still targeted. The unit is confident that, regardless of political developments, Israel will eventually reach every individual involved in the October 7 attacks, ensuring closure for victims and a lasting deterrent against future terror operations.
