Ben Gendis, a 24-year-old Israeli fitness influencer and former combat soldier, has taken the trend of "luxmaxxing", extreme aesthetic enhancement, to new heights. Initially motivated by body image issues, Gendis began intense fitness training at age 13 and gained popularity on TikTok for his content on calorie deficit and nutrition. After serving in the Israeli Border Police and suffering serious injuries from an explosive device in Jenin two weeks before his discharge in June 2023, he returned to fitness coaching but later paused to complete his education. During this break, he hit what he describes as his lowest point in self-image, prompting him to adopt luxmaxxing fully.

Luxmaxxing involves maximizing physical attractiveness through a spectrum of methods, from fitness and grooming to cosmetic procedures and surgeries. Gendis has undergone rhinoplasty, eyebrow treatments, hair straightening, and uses colored contact lenses and makeup. He plans further procedures including facial fat removal, hyaluronic acid injections in his jawline, chin, and cheekbones, teeth straightening, eye shape alteration, and possibly limb-lengthening surgery, a procedure he has considered for three years. He acknowledges the risks, including a loss of libido caused by medication for hair loss.

Gendis emphasizes that his motivation is not only personal but also social, aiming to increase his confidence and dating success. He notes a significant rise in matches on dating apps and improved social interactions. While his family expresses concern over potential health risks and excess, they also recognize his improved appearance. Gendis is transparent about the downsides and failed procedures, stressing authenticity in his online persona.

He hopes to transform luxmaxxing from an underground trend into a recognized community in Israel, challenging the country’s traditionally conservative and macho attitudes toward male grooming, partly shaped by military culture. Gendis aspires to become very famous, wealthy, and handsome while leading a shift in public perception about the importance of appearance in quality of life.
