Shin Bet Chief Warns Israeli Cabinet Hamas Seeks to Stall Israel Under Disarmament Deal

Shin Bet Chief David Zini warned Israeli cabinet ministers that Hamas aims to delay progress under the Gaza disarmament framework, intending to stall Israeli actions even beyond upcoming elections. Zini described Hamas's strategy as a time-buying tactic, stating they plan to wait several months post-election before revealing their next moves.

During the cabinet discussion, ministers emphasized to Prime Minister that Israel must avoid any actions that could be perceived as entering a 14-day "disarmament preparation period," including halting targeted assassinations. The cabinet also noted that Israel has yet to sign or agree to the peace council's roadmap, which affects the official authorization for a multinational force to enter Gaza.

Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump praised the peace council's recent agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. He described the deal as a significant step toward long-term peace and security, outlining a phased implementation where Israeli forces would withdraw, and an international stabilization force alongside a new Palestinian police would assume security responsibilities in Gaza. Trump also highlighted that Gaza would transition to a new Palestinian government serving its people under this agreement.
