Iranian Parliament Speaker Mocks Trump Over Mixed Threats and Negotiations

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for sending contradictory messages between military threats and diplomatic overtures. In a sarcastic tweet, Qalibaf mocked Washington's inconsistent stance by saying, "Massive attack on the way... wait, never mind, they want to negotiate," calling it "theater diplomacy repeated over and over."

Qalibaf condemned the Western pressure tactics on Tehran, labeling the use of bullying, broken promises, and fake news as a failed strategy. He urged the U.S. and its allies to fundamentally change their approach by acknowledging facts and fulfilling their commitments, concluding with a firm statement: "We don’t need any more theater."

Iranian news agency Nour News also criticized Trump’s rush to declare success regarding the Strait of Hormuz issue, suggesting it exposed his political vulnerability ahead of the U.S. congressional elections. An Iranian Foreign Ministry source told Fars News Agency that under a proposed arrangement between Iran and Oman, ship entry into the Strait would be controlled by Iran through the northern corridor near Iranian shores, while exit would be jointly managed by Iran and Oman via the southern corridor. After a set period, traffic in both corridors would cease, consolidating all ship movements to a central corridor. Fees for passage would be set as payment for various services provided.

This development highlights ongoing negotiations and Iran’s insistence on controlling maritime traffic in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions with the U.S.
