Gaza Journalist Hopes Gadi Eizenkot Becomes Israel's Next Prime Minister

Sami Obeid, a journalist from Gaza, expressed in a recent interview his strong desire for Gadi Eizenkot to become Israel's next prime minister, replacing Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking to Ido Tauber on the "Yoman Tzohorayim" program, Obeid predicted a significant decline for Netanyahu's Likud party in the upcoming 2026 elections, estimating it would secure fewer than 20 Knesset seats.

Obeid also voiced hope for a new Israeli leadership including politicians like Yair Lapid, Yair Golan, and Benny Gantz, whom he believes would adopt a different approach toward coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. He suggested that such a coalition could lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In response, host Ido Tauber cautioned against optimism based on past experiences, referencing the Oslo Accords and the resulting difficult situation in Gaza. Tauber criticized the Palestinian leadership for turning Gaza into a "nest of monstrous terror," implying skepticism about the prospects for peace under new Israeli leadership.
