Israeli Military Files Charges Against Seven Engineers for Systematic Abuse of Young Soldiers
The Israeli military prosecution has filed a serious indictment against seven veteran soldiers from an engineering unit, accusing them of prolonged, systematic abuse of younger soldiers. Another account details three consecutive nights where young soldiers were locked in their rooms after lights out, beaten with fists and wooden sticks on their shins, and shot with air rifle pellets, all while being forbidden from laughing or reacting. Many victims avoided seeking medical treatment out of fear that revealing their injuries would lead to further retaliation.
The accused have been in custody for over six weeks, and the military court proceedings are ongoing amid public and military concern over the severity of the abuse.
