IDF Plans Strong Response to Hezbollah Violations in Lebanon Amid Political Restraint

The Israel Defense Forces demanded a strong military response in Lebanon following what they described as a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement by Hezbollah. However, the political leadership restrained these calls for escalation. Discussions are ongoing between top security officials and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to formulate a significant response during the night.

Earlier, the IDF conducted strikes near the villages of Al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun, with the IDF Arabic spokesperson, Lt. Col. Ella Vaya, issuing evacuation warnings to Al-Mansouri residents, citing forced action due to Hezbollah's violations. Concurrently, Lebanese officials are attempting to leverage ongoing negotiations in Rome to limit Israel's military response. The Lebanese delegation pressured the Israeli side to retract threats against the Shiite village of Al-Mansouri in southern Lebanon.

Beirut's leadership hopes that U.S. pressure, aligned with President Donald Trump's administration's interest in successful talks, will moderate Israel's actions. Hezbollah opposes the negotiations and aims to sabotage them by continuing provocations against the IDF, hoping to derail Israel-Lebanon talks and shift the focus back to U.S.-Iran negotiations, which Hezbollah favors.

For the first time in weeks, the Israeli Air Force struck multiple targets in southern Lebanon, including Hezbollah command centers, weapons depots, and infrastructure, as a direct response to ceasefire breaches. Israeli sources indicate the response is ongoing, with additional sensitive operations under consideration. The IDF clarified that Al-Mansouri is under Israeli control and that its residents entered under Lebanese Army protection, violating an agreement signed in the U.S.

Following the initial airstrikes, the IDF is preparing for potential further escalation overnight. Israeli officials expressed deep disappointment with the Lebanese Army's inactivity against Hezbollah. Political-level discussions were convened to decide whether and how to expand the response ahead of renewed Israel-Lebanon talks scheduled for the next day.
