President Herzog Urges Unity During Elections at Herzl Ancestors' Burial in Jerusalem

President Isaac Herzog spoke at the burial ceremony of his great-grandparents, Shimon and Rivka Herzl, in Jerusalem, emphasizing that elections should not be viewed as a civil war. He called on Israeli society to continue working together on the historic mission of building the Jewish state, warning against deepening divisions during the election period.

Herzog also addressed the security situation, highlighting the need to combine military achievements with diplomatic efforts. He stated, "After every military victory and achievement, the work of diplomacy and statesmanship must follow," adding that true victory includes political progress.

The ceremony marked the completion of Theodor Herzl's will, which stipulated that his remains and those of his close family be reburied in the State of Israel after its establishment. Herzog noted that just days earlier, two coffins were brought from a Jewish cemetery in Belgrade and were now laid to rest in Jerusalem.

Expressing concern over the recent data showing Israelis considering emigration, Herzog said, "My heart aches for every individual, couple, or family leaving for another place. We have no other home." He underscored that the greater legacy of Herzl, the building of the Jewish state, remains the responsibility of Israeli society today.
