Magen David Adom Urgently Calls for Blood Donations Amid National Shortage

Magen David Adom (MDA) has issued an urgent appeal to the public to donate blood immediately due to critically low national blood bank supplies. The shortage threatens daily medical needs for cancer patients, new mothers, IDF wounded, accident victims, and other patients who rely on blood transfusions. Despite a steady demand from hospitals and the military, the number of donors has dropped during the summer months, attributed to vacations and heatwaves.

MDA emphasizes that approximately 1,200 donors are needed daily to maintain a stable blood supply. Dr. Rafael Strugo, MDA's Deputy Director of Medical and Blood Services, highlighted the continuous need for blood even during summer, stating, "Every blood unit donated today could save lives tomorrow." MDA Director Eli Bin added that blood cannot be manufactured or imported in emergencies, urging everyone able to donate to contribute and help save lives.

MDA also reminded the public that a single blood donation can save up to three lives and encouraged healthy individuals to visit donation centers nationwide without delay to support the healthcare system's ongoing needs.
